That is a claim we take very seriously. It is a claim that is scientifically verified by University research.
In 2004, Don Mayse, the owner of Show Me Farms, suffered a cardiac episode. Two arteries in his heart had been blocked 85% and 90%, respectively. After being rushed to the hospital and into surgery, Don survived – but was told four dreaded words: “More fish, less beef.” He needed Omega-3’s.
He was forced to switch to a mainly-fish diet due to his high cholesterol. Not exactly what a cattle rancher wants to hear.
Three days later, Jerome Grethen came into Don’s office with a study about feeding cattle flax seed to change their Omega-3 profile. Don was mesmerized and began tweaking his cattles’ feeding regimen.
Amazingly, three months later, a lab confirmed the Omega-3 profile of Show Me Farm’s cattle had skyrocketed! Don and Jerome then became scientists, tweaking the cattle’s feed and measuring the results. Two years later, Show Me Farm’s cattle had reached 600% higher Omega-3 levels.
Eating this new, healthy steak, after over a year eating a fish-heavy diet, was incredible. It was succulent, mouth-watering, and more delicious than ever. Ever since, Don has been perfecting the Show Me Farms feeding regimen and has created a truly unique, healthy beef product.
Understand that eating Show Me Farms Omega-3 beef will not instantly cure any health problem – you will need to make some lifestyle and dietetic changes. As much as Don hates fish, he still eats wild salmon once a week because it is very good for you. Stay healthy. Eating well and exercising regularly is much easier than treating a preventable illness down the road.
But finally, you do not need to rely solely on fish to get the benefits of Omega-3’s. In fact, our beef provides some Omega-3’s that are not present in fish, including ALA which promotes a strong, healthy heartbeat. Finally you can supplement your diet with healthy, mouth-watering, delicious steaks. That’s what Show Me Farms is all about.
You’ve probably heard about the health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids. More and more people are turning to Omega-3 fatty acids to fight all types of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, and some types of cancer.
Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids (EFAs). They are necessary for a healthy body, but the body can’t make them. The only way to get them is through food. They are typically found in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut, some plants, and nut oils (and now Show Me Farms Beef!).
Having low Omega-3 levels can cause inflammations, leading to illness. While Omega-3’s are abundant in some foods, most people don’t get enough of them in their daily diets. Flax seed contains alpha linolenic acid (ALA) which is an Omega-3 that is a precursor to the same fatty acids found in cold water fish and salmon: DHA and EPA.
ALA also has fantastic health benefits on its own. ALA supports a strong, healthy heartbeat, among other things.
Show Me Farms’ beef has 600% higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, letting you eat beef rather than turning to fish or fish oil supplements!
Yes, it can be. However, you will probably want to steer clear of farm-raised salmon and some other fish for the reasons detailed below. Don Mayse eats wild salmon once a week because it is great for you and has fantastic health benefits, while avoiding some of the pollution and mercury risks detailed below.
This mercury has been proven to ‘bioaccumulate’ in humans, meaning it can build up and cause mercury poisoning. You do not want mercury poisoning. It causes substantial damage to the central nervous system.
Now, there is nothing wrong with eating small amounts of these fish. Eating them a few times a month is perfectly fine. Don Mayse eats wild salmon once a week. However, the Natural Resources Defense Council, in conjunction with the EPA, lists the maximum number of meals you should consume of a variety of different fish to avoid dangerous mercury consumption.
Generally, you should eat less than three servings of tuna, sea bass, and mackerel each month. You should avoid swordfish, shark, and ahi tuna completely due to highly elevated mercury levels. See the full list.
Fortunately, Show Me Farms beef has no mercury at all and is packed with Omega-3’s!
Eating too much Omega-3 is very, very hard to do. Most people are on the other end of the spectrum – they are not getting nearly enough Omega-3. To consume too much Omega-3, you would have to be eating an excessive amount of Omega-3 foods, such as eating tuna or salmon four times a day (and mercury poisoning would be your first concern there!).
For optimal health, consult your doctor, registered dietitian/nutritionist, or other qualified health professional and consume the amount of Omega-3 he or she recommends.
Yes. It is actually recommended by health professionals. Omega-3’s are essential to your baby’s brain and eye development. During fetal development and throughout the early years of life, it is very important that your growing child receives plenty Omega-3’s.
Research also suggests that consuming Omega-3’s during pregnancy promotes a healthy pregnancy.
